Ronstadt's loony love tunes

BAMBI'S VINYL VIEWS Bric-a-brac

Let me tell you, I'm going to start demanding an expense account. Do you realize that I'm paying out of my own pocket to entertain you social variants? I mean, me, pay for things myself? Ridiculous you say? But it's true! Who would have thought that I would ever have needed money?

I've decided that as a new feature I'm going to review albums by hear-say. When do I have time to listen to all this trash? I mean now really, please!

B-52's--The poop is that it's a pretty good, danceable New Wave album. Or so I've been told. One guy I know (Peter X-O-X-OX-O) really likes this song about some chick who drives a Plymouth satellite. And what is this about a "Rock Lobster?" So I'll recommend it, but unless I get a new boyfriend I won't be getting it.

In response to my request for mail, I did not get any questions or comments, but I did get $3 and two propositions. Sorry, but I'm not that easy.

Next month I hope to feature an exclusive interview with Larry Petrosek, DJ or Traxxs. That is, I'll have an interview if that sexy hunk of a man calls me up. YOO HOO! Larry! Youlittle cutie! I'll be waiting to hear from you!

Will Bambi meet the man of his dreams? Will Bambi get printable copy? Tune in next month. Larry! It's me, Bambi! YOO HOO!!!

TWISTED AFFECTION

Linda Ronstadt is one of the few women I could go straight for. (Quick! Slap my face!) Seriously, in past albums such as HEART LIKE A WHEEL, PRISONER IN DISGUISE, and HASTEN DOWN THE WIND (which I personally feel is her best), she has been able to bring out emotions in me that no other woman has been able to do. When she sings to me that she's done me wrong, that she knows she's no good for me, but, she loves me, can't live without me: and, won't I please take her back and try her again: I want to. I want to take her in my arms and tell her I forgive her. These albums were able to create such a mood that I lost myself in her voice.

On her new album, MAD LOVE, Linda tries New Wave. This is her "rock" album. Yet once again, this Ip creates a mood. More than just a collection of songs (like the LIVING IN THE USA Ip), this record has a concept, a theme. There is just one small problem, I'm not sure Linda should sing New Wave. Seldom, have I heard a voice that is so full and rich. It just doesn't have that cold edge that New Wave demands.

MAD (mad), adj.--1. mentally disturbed or deranged; insane; demented. 2. overcome by desire, excessively fond, ⚫ infatuated.

And that's what this record is: love touched by psychosis. Side One begins with the title track 'Mad Love' which sets the theme. of this Ip. 'Party Girl' one of three songs written by Elvis Costello, and also one of the best cuts, is mysterious and sensual. It also shows Linda's voice at all its beauty and power. 'How Do I Make You' a rather frenzied rocker fits in perfectly. I love it! Two new versions of 'I Can't Let Go' and 'Hurts So Bad' (circa 1965) round out side one Despite the varying tempos, this side is amazingly unified and best represents the concept of this Ip. record is going, side two goes While side one tells where this there. Best cuts are 'Look Out For My Love,' 'Justine,' and 'Girls Talk.' Every song on this album is good. Some are great. The bottom line is that there is only one Ronstadt, and while this time she's not begging at my feet, she still loves me. And who could ask for more?

Diana Ross and the Supremes Medley of Hits

Motown Disco 12" Single

In these days of gas and oil crunches, other modes of transportation are still available. (Forget the feathers, you fairies). With Motown's release of Diana Ross and the Supremes' Medley

of Hits, one can easily be transported 15 years into the past. (Before you know it with our upcoming presidential elections and the country's swing---nay, about-face---to the right, we'll be back there any way...if not in the hey-day of Ike and Mamie!)

thought updates, revisions, etc. Any way, just when your of yesterday's music had reached the max, along comes this hot disco-rock single. They've taken what might be considered the best of the Supremes--before Diana's egotistical upstaging of Flo and Mary--and a reinforced dance there, believe me. The songs are beat. The old-time quality is still all the same, just more danceable. They've not been disco-ized. The featured songs are: "Stop in the Name of Love," "Back in My Arms Again," "Baby Love"...oh, girl, you know the rest!

On the reverse side, we have a splendid mix of "No One Gets the Prize" and "The Boss." In the case of "The Boss," it's got to be at least the fourth release of the song. But still it's hot...as hot as it was last summer when it first debued.

TO FADE OUT AND BE PAINTED OVER

By Richard Jay Wilson I'M IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE IN A PAINTING,

I CAN'T EXPLAIN MY FEELINGS,

BUT THEY'RE SO INTENSE. I PRETEND YOU,

BUT YOU ARE REAL,

AND I HAVE GIVEN YOU A NAME THAT I CALL

OUT LOUD WHEN I NEED YOU. I WONDER, COULD I BE A PAINTING TOO?

IF SO, I'D CHOOSE TO BE PAINTED NEXT TO YOU. SO THAT SOMEDAY WE WOULD FADE TOGETHER, TO FADE OUT, AND BE PAINTED OVER,

FOR THE NEXT GENERATION TO HOLD THEIR COLORS BRIGHT AND PROUD OVER OUR LOVE.

MY ROSE GARDEN

1976

by Gail Ann Merritt My rose garden is a mist of colored roses from hither near and far

A pond of golden fish and blue jays, red cardinals

And soothing flows of cool delightful spring air

And in the mist stands me, as free as the birds

And as floating as the winds Sparkling like gold in warm running waters with a rose.
